What is PMAY?
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY Scheme) is an initiative of the Government of India which mainly focuses on the aims of providing affordable houses to poor urban by the year 2022, the scheme was launched on 1st June 2015.

Type of PMAY Scheme
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin:
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) was previously known as the Indira Awas Yojana and was given
a new name as PMAY-G in 2016.
The scheme’s main focus on providing housing loans in rural regions of India (excluding Chandigarh and Delhi). - Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban:
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – U, as the name suggests, is focused on the urban areas.
There are more than 4,331 towns and cities are enlisted under this scheme.
The scheme is to set in 3 different phases:- Under phase 1 the government targeted to cover 100 cities in different states and UTs across the country
from April 2015 to March 2017. - In phase 2 they focus on more than 200 cities in different states and UTs across the country
from April 2017 to March 2019. - Under Phase 3 main focus is to cover not only all the remaining cities but towns also, that missed out in phases
1 & 2 by the end of March 2022.
